Almendra Staffa-Healey

Almendra Staffa-Healey

Madrid Director

Almendra was born in Granada, Spain to American parents, and usually has to stop to think about the answer to the question “Where are you from?” She holds a Bachelor's degree from NYU (summa cum laude) in Art History, and an MBA from the Instituto de Estudios Bursátiles, an institution associated with the Universidad Complutense of Madrid and the Madrid Stock Exchange. In addition to serving as Resident Director for a number of US university programs in Madrid, she has taught studio art to 9th and 10th graders in New York. Almendra’s professional focus is cross-cultural understanding through education and she co-authored a book commissioned by the European Union on perfecting foreign language and interpersonal skills through internships abroad. She was Vice President of the Association of American Programs in Spain (APUNE) and is a Qualified Administrator of the Intercultural Development Inventory (IDI®). Almendra joined EUSA in 2005 and, aside from the great fit with her professional interests, particularly enjoys the “humane” atmosphere and the opportunity to develop and carry out ideas.

Nuria Velazquez

Nuria Velazquez

Madrid Placement Director

Nuria has been with EUSA from its inception in Madrid – longer than anyone else on our entire team. Nuria holds an advanced degree in Primary and Special Education from the Escuela Universitaria La Salle in Madrid. In addition to academic credentials in education, Nuria has a background in the private sector in publications and public relations. She worked with international clients such as Citibank and American Airlines and local journalists. Having worked with everyone from large corporations to children with severe disabilities, Nuria appreciates the challenge of balancing the needs of her students with placement supervisors in Madrid. When she isn’t working, she enjoys traveling, spending time with her children, and going to the cinema (and she’s dreaming of the day it won’t just be children’s films anymore).

EUSA is a not-for-profit internship organization specializing in customized, academically-directed programs in
London, Dublin, Madrid, Paris, and Prague.
